No Sleep 'til Pau

And so it begins...actually it began in November. There have been so many people that have helped me and patiently listened and offered me advice. Placid Planet Bikes in Lake Placid NY. My boss and superhuman bike rider Mike Scorer. Sonia Vennitti and her inspirational photography. My poor family and friends. Mom, Dad, Jamie, Rachel, Olly and Casey. Maureen and Scott, Robin and Judith and most of all Tom Ashworth. It was his dumb idea in the first place and I would not be in the position I am to do this without him. He's got to do it too!
There are others that have inspired me and patiently let me bore them. You know who you are and current distances being what they are I am not able to thank you for your support in the appropriate way.
We are setting off from my house at 4.30am on Thursday for the Pyrenees. I don't know what will happen. The weather forecast looks mild but no matter what it is or what happens (crashes, flats, hypogycemia, dehydration, equipment failure...) I will not give up.
I will think of the thousands miles I have put in during the winter. The rain, snow, dark mornings while everyone else was in the gym on the stat bike. I will think of the missed family skiing trip in Lake Placid so I could run a half marathon on a treadmill. I will remember eating nothing but cold tuna and oatmeal for months. I will remember the sore neck and the revolt my body went through to get used to riding distances over and over again.

Most of all I will remember that it is your support that inspired me to go out and give it a shot.

I do not know what will happen except that I will not give up.

Thank you so much.
