Red Neck Cyclist

Last weeks ride to Box Hill had the comical added trial of not being able to turn my head without turning my torso. I'd go to pass something and look over my shoulder to see if the coast was clear...SHAZAM. Neck sprain. I don't know how I got it but it was pretty shitty. I went to the chemist and got some pain killers with codeine in them. Yum. Missed a training session on Monday and decided I needed to switch to another painkiller. I got some Nuromol...you know the freaky looking ads with the little tic tac on a wheel? They were ok. The pack said three times daily...one at a time. I took one and it didn't touch the pain so I took two...worked. Two at a time four times a day. Neck started feeling ok by Thursday.

Friday am I went for an 8 mile run. I weigh myself once a week. By my calculations I should have been 75kg. My workrate to calorie ratio meant that I would lose 1.4 pounds. I got on the scale and BLAM! 80kg! ELEVEN POUNDS in five days. I started googling and decided I'd given myself renal failure.

I went to the drugstore on Friday. "Help! I've got renal failure. THOSE THINGS SHOULD BE BANNED!" I began waiving the packet around. The woman behind the counter laughed. "It's just water retention. It is normal with those". I left. Relived I wasn't going to need dialysis I decided to quit the pain killers. I dropped five pounds in one day and although it was a real struggle going around today I managed 60 ish miles around Richmond Park. Some fast split times as well. The wind in the rain came in and I wasn't feeling all that Flandrian so I called it a day.

Hill repeats start on Wednesday.

My neck works again.

So far so good.
